We
therefore need to reckon or partner with him in his death by believing in what
Christ did in our place.
Rom 6:7
For he that is
dead is freed from sin.
John 3:16
‘... that
whosoever believes on him may not
perish’. Jesus Christ is God’s love gift to the world but it takes believing on
him to be saved. I so much love God’s word, it is written all over. Let’s read
Ephesians together, the second chapter, let’s start from the fourth verse:
But God —
so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved
us,
Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own]
shortcomings
and trespasses,
He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of
Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by
grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved
(delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation).
And He
raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving
us joint seating with Him] in the
heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the
Anointed One).
He did this that He might clearly
demonstrate through the ages to come the immeasurable (limitless, surpassing)
riches of His free grace (His unmerited favor) in [His] kindness and goodness of heart toward us in
Christ Jesus.
For it is by free grace (God's
unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's
salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your
own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God;
Not because of works [not the
fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is
not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in
it or take glory to himself.]
For we are God's [own] handiwork
(His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born
anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned
beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we
should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us
to live].
Wow! Glory to God! God’s word is
our final authority because there we establish our doctrine (teaching), we are
straightened up through true evidences, and we are corrected and instructed in
righteousness. (2 Tim 3:16).
Ephesians 2:4-10 summarizes
everything. This type of righteousness is a gift from God. Not by trying to
keep dos and don’ts (the laws/ten commandments)that we can be saved. If sin came
in to the world through one man – Adam, God predestined that through another
man – Jesus Christ – total redemption and salvation should come and thank God
it is here already.
It is after this believing in
Christ that we can live pleasing to him outside that, our righteousness are as
filthy rags.
I like the way New English
Translation puts it in a crude form, prophet Isaiah talking about our so-called
‘righteousness’ (self righteousness) before Jesus came in the 64th
chapter and verse 6 (Isaiah 64:6):
‘We are all like one who is unclean;
all our so-called righteous acts are like a menstrual rag in your sight...’
Prophet Isaiah saw this in his revelation
compared to God’s own righteousness in Christ Jesus and it fell short
seriously, that was why in the 8th verse of the same chapter, he saw
also that we are just all made of clay and God is the potter and then he prayed
for mercy. But now Jesus came after Isaiah was long gone, an answer to the
prayers Isaiah prayed. That is why a born again Christian can’t just submit to
that ideology of being just a clay: yes, we were ordinary clay but the coming
of Christ and our acceptance as our lord changed everything. We now have
eternal life, housed in our jar of clay (our body). Jesus Christ is the prophecy
of the Old Testament prophets fulfilled. Jesus said
‘You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures
diligently, because you suppose and trust that
you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify
about Me!’
John 5:39
God’s word in Jesus time was
– the scriptures.
Therefore, from the book of
Ephesians 2:6 heaven is not where we try to make anymore! Once we believe in
Christ, we are seated right there.
Heaven is not the goal of a
believer! It is so short-sighting to say such, when Christ himself said in John
14:6
“I am
the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
to the Father except through me.”
A Christian
life is actually a life of relationship and ministry to God and (ministry of reconciliation
2Cor. 5:19) to the world. We are saved to show the world Jesus and get them
saved too. We have been saved unto good works! The same Ephesians 2:10 establish
that:
For we are God's [own] handiwork
(His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born
anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned
beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we
should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us
to live].
Rom 8:11
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell
in you, he that rose up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal
bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.
Then can we live a
life guided by the spirit of God and give expression to our righteousness in
Christ, because then his spirit is in us.
It is therefore
necessary to come to salvation on this basis. Why?
1 Tim 2:3-4
.. and [it is] pleasing and acceptable to God our Savior, Who
wishes all men to be saved and [increasingly] to perceive and recognize and discern and know precisely and correctly
the [divine] Truth.
Every man born naturally has
a sinful nature in them. They do not need to be taught how to sin to commit any
form of sin, and that was because of what Adam did. Sin is the nature of every man
until they are saved, they are dead spiritually. Salvation is for everyone
regardless of status, religion, family background or anything. Christ came for
the salvation of the whole world.
2
Cor 5:17
Therefore if any person is [ingrafted]
in
Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous
moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
Hence, every man needs
salvation to be saved from spiritual death we live in naturally from
conception.
HOW?!
Rom 10:9-10
... if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus
is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth)
that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart a person
believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified
(declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses
(declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.
So in conclusion, Jesus
Christ was not in this world mainly for the miraculous and the supernatural
they were just signs for men to believe that He Is the Saviour sent and
anointed by God to take away the sins of men. I’d rather suggest Christians
celebrate Easter and Christmas joyfully because until Easter the reason for
Jesus’ coming wasn’t fulfilled.
Remain blessed! Your brother and friend
