Music Rudiments you should know (Volume II)

Variances in musical notes are denoted in ascending pitches by these alphabets. Since we play keys to produce these notes on the piano, we use keys instead of notes or interchangeably. Howbeit, we refer to the same thing.

On the piano, there are black and white keys. The black keys are in set of twos and threes. The white keys take the alphabets with key C starting on the left of most piano. Counting from Key C, D, E, F, G then A, B and so on. In between these seven keys are five other keys which are C sharp, D flat, E flat, F sharp, A flat and B flat located on the black keys.
In all we have twelve keys in music. The next chapter explains more on how the additional five keys got their names.

KEY C

To locate the home key C
The white key preceding any two set of black keys is key C on the keyboard. It is a natural Key and the only key which when playing through its major scale(C D E F G A B), we won’t play the black key, just white keys.

A scale is a series of musical notes sequentially arranged in ascending or descending order according to pitch.

A major scale is of the sequence Tone, Tone, semiTone, Tone, Tone, Tone, semiTone Pattern. T. T. sT. T. T. T.  sT.

Why we chose to start our learning with this key is for easy approach. The principles that would be taught will however be fundamental and could be applied on other keys.
